Hi, I’m Andi! I’m an experienced educator and private tutor with a background teaching math and science to students of different ages and skill levels. I bring that same structured, patient, and engaging approach to teaching chess.

My lessons focus on helping students understand why moves work, not just memorizing openings or patterns. I break chess down into clear, manageable concepts and help students develop the ability to think ahead, recognize threats, create plans, and make confident decisions over the board.

Students can work with me on chess fundamentals and rules, opening principles, tactics and pattern recognition, checkmates and mating patterns, piece development and coordination, middlegame strategy, basic endgames, avoiding common mistakes and blunders, analyzing games and learning from losses, and developing stronger calculation and decision-making skills.

As a teacher, I’m especially comfortable working with children, teens, beginners, and developing players. I adapt lessons to each student’s level and keep sessions interactive rather than simply lecturing.

I also enjoy incorporating board games and card games into learning. Games are a great way to build strategic thinking, logic, patience, pattern recognition, problem-solving, sportsmanship, and decision-making while keeping students engaged and having fun. My experience as an educator helps me turn games into meaningful learning opportunities while still making sessions enjoyable for children and teens.

An additional plus is that I have completed NYC Department of Education fingerprinting and clearance, giving families added reassurance when choosing an instructor who works with children.

My goal is for every student to leave each lesson understanding chess a little more deeply and knowing exactly what they can work on to become a stronger player. Whether a student is completely new to chess or already knows the basics and wants to improve their strategy, I’m excited to help them build their skills one step at a time.
